Graphic designers don’t usually write about empowerment and personal growth. I get that. But I’m weird.
The best part of what I do is working with people who are almost ready to step into their power, to own who they are, and really start expressing that in their business. They’ve been at this solopreneur thing for awhile, they’ve done ok, they see that the best work they do is when they step outside their comfort zone, and they want to take it to the next level. This is usually the moment they decide to rebrand: a new logo, new tagline, sometimes even a new business name.
Enter your graphic designer.
Once you have reached the point of wanting to work with a designer to create something that will reflect you in all of your awesomeness, you are going to working very close with your designer. Oddly, it puts the designer in a quasi-therapeutic role. You will go through fear, you will go through doubt, you will be afraid sometimes of being too bold, too confident, too “you.”
But the right designer will not let you retreat back into the familiar comfort of hiding yourself from the world. Our job is to know and understand who you are, your amazing potential, and to translate that into a vision.
During my in-depth discovery sessions, I hear the words, “I’ve never told anyone this before, but…” from every single client.
More than once, I’ve shown a final logo to someone, only to have them actually break down into tears. It’s as though they have been hiding a piece of themselves up to the very end, and seeing their logo makes it suddenly visible to them. It’s the one mirror they can’t hide from, can’t avoid, and the one mirror that shows them as the best they are capable of being.
When you are investing in a designer to create your unique logo design, moving beyond either your DIY logo or the template you used, you deserve no less than a designer who can uncover this in you, and put it up in front of the world for all to admire.
